Morris Bout Results

A two-time EIWA runner-up and four-time placer, John ranks 3rd all-time in Lehigh heavyweight wins (77). In a remarkable six-week sophomore string of duals in early 1990, he tied Iowa State’s Jamie Cutler (3rd in 1992); beat North Carolina State’s Sylester Terkay 12-9 (NCAA 3rd, 2nd, 1st in 1991-93) and edged Penn State’s Greg Haladay, 4-3, the NCAA runner-up that year. As a freshman, John also beat Mark Kerr of Syracuse, 7-2, a three-time EIWA and one-time NCAA champ at 190).  When he made his second trip to the NCAAs as a senior, John was ready, if unseeded, winning 4 of 7 bouts to place 6th by upsetting #4 seed Kirk Mammen, Oklahoma St (a four-time All-American), 9-7 in the second round, plus future NFL star, Lorenzo Neal, Fresno State in consolations to reach 6th place.
